Designed to replace the smaller 456; the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti was manufactured between 2004 and 2010 as an executive 2+2 coupe grand tourer which is a true 4-seater. A little over 3000 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti were built, of which 199 came with a six-speed manual transmission.
Interestingly, the 612 is only the second Ferrari developed which is an all-aluminum vehicle, the first being the 360 Modena. The space frame is made from extrusions and castings of the material and the aluminum body is welded on which makes the car incredibly light and gives exceptionally high torsional rigidity which helps increase performance.

The 612 Scaglietti name pays homage to Sergio Scaglietti “the maestro of aluminum” who bodied some of the most famous Ferrari’s. It shares the same engine as the 575 Superamerica. Despite the 612 name suggesting that it’s a 6.0 liter V12, the displacement of the engine is actually 5.7 liters. Regardless, it still enables the car to attain top speeds of close to 200 mph and a 0-60 mph in 4 seconds.
In 2007, Ferrari announced the Superfast robotic (F1) transmission and a new electrochromic glass roof that tints and lightens at the push of a button. Then in 2008, the unveiling of the One-to-One (OTO) personalisation program, a step further from the existing Carrozzeria Scaglietti Programme, meant that the 612 was only available through this new special-order process.
This programme enabled clients to hand pick a wide variety of options from leather swatches to brake calipers and everything in between. No expense was spared on the 612 and all cars came with xenon headlamps as standard, unlike on the 360 when they were an option, making these cars an exclusive car for flagship customers.
Xenon gas is used inside each bulb in the headlights which gives it its bright light characteristics and uses an electric arc between two electrodes rather than a filament to produce light. Xenon’s are expected to last a lot longer, sometimes even for the life of the car, than its halogen equivalent.
As a celebration of the 60th anniversary of the company, Ferrari introduced a limited-edition variant of the 612 in 2007 - the 612 Sessanta (Italian for “sixty”) which was limited to 60 units. The four-seater V12 was produced in a two-tone paint, quilted leather interior, forged 19” wheels which are larger than standard, and an electrochromic glass roof. The Sessanta’s were only offered to loyal Ferrari customers making this an extremely rare car.
