Unveiled at the 1966 Geneva Motor Show, the Lamborghini Miura P400 wasn't just a new model, it defined a new era. Widely regarded as the world’s first true supercar, it fused exotic mid-engine layout, blistering performance, and dramatic styling in a way no road car had before.

It was conceived by visionary engineers Gian Paolo Dallara and Paolo Stanzani, and brought to life by the youthful genius of Marcello Gandini at Carrozzeria Bertone.

Drawing heavily from motorsport engineering, the Miura featured a transversely mounted 4.0-liter V12 positioned behind the cockpit, an audacious setup that allowed for a short wheelbase and razor-sharp handling.

The body was as radical as the drivetrain: sleek and low-slung, measuring just 110 cm in height. With sweeping lines, the now-iconic “eyelash” headlamp surrounds, and rear slats designed to vent engine heat, the Miura was unlike anything the public had seen.

Performance matched the drama. Backed by 350 hp, the original P400 could sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.7 seconds, making it the fastest production car of its time with a top speed of 171 mph.

The P400S followed in 1969 with 370 hp, enhanced trim, and improved refinement. Then came the 1971 P400SV - 385 hp, a stronger chassis, wider rear track, revised suspension, and a separate lubrication system for the engine and transmission. For the fortunate few, factory-built SVJ variants inspired by the Miura Jota pushed exclusivity and performance even further.

Beyond the spec sheet, the Miura captured hearts. Its cinematic debut in The Italian Job (1969) on the Gran San Bernardo Pass remains one of the most iconic moments in automotive film history. Today, the Miura stands not just as a masterpiece of engineering, but a symbol of style, innovation, and unfiltered passion.
