The Porsche 991.2: A Turbocharged Evolution

The second generation of Porsche 991, aka 991.2, produced between 2015-2019 follows on from the first generation 991 and notable differences between the two generations were new styling, tailpipes, lights, and a new engine.

The updated 991’s new engine was a 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged flat-six, and this marked the first time that the base models had turbocharged engines which needless to say delivered phenomenal performance making turbocharged engines become the new normal.

The base model Carrera was available in both coupé and cabriolet versions. Their 3.0 liter engine produced 365 hp and was capable of 0-60 mph in under 4 seconds. Optional extras included a sport exhaust, heated seats, GT steering wheel and colored seat belts. A Carrera S (Sport) model was also available, and this increased the horsepower to 414 and included the optional extra of rear wheel steering (RWS).

On the outside, the 991.2 looks majestic, still easily identifiable as part of the iconic 911 family, the car looks amazing with its curvaceous rounded front and rear end, body-colored bumpers and skirts, LED running lights and subtle air intakes.

The interior was like the first generation featuring a perfect blend of luxury and practicality whilst retaining its racing GT heritage. Notable improvements were the upgraded new Porsche Communication Management unit and the reversed gear shift controls on the PDK gearstick and paddles.

Throughout the production years other models were added to the line-up, notable mentions include the 991 Turbo, 991 GT3 and 991 GT3 RS.
